Trends in Embroidery and Textile Decoration (Text and Fotos : Reiner Knochel)
What may be going on in autumn and winter 2026/2027 ? And what do we expect from this time ? Most probably more clarity, more security and more quiet. Of course we will keep our chin up. The motto? Now more than ever ! And all this is mirrored in the season’s trends. There will be decorations, for sure. And we’ll mix and combine everything, wild and free: old with new, known with unknown, light with dark, smooth with rough, noble with ordinary, naughty with well-behaved… We want to surprise and to get surprised – so it’s a perfect possibility to interpret embroidery outside the box !
Noble and shining leathers, exotic animal skins and (fake) furs will play a major role – and a lot of black in luxurious shimmering implementations…
Papery looks radiate naturalness and calm…
Frayed and hairy looks offer individuality and character to the collections…
Muted pastels on one side and shades of grey on the other side provide comfortable and cozy feelings…
Luxury golden accents represent light and well-being. Designs may be created with a wink to break up the classic look…
Fabrics in classical autumn shades are embroidered ton-sur-ton in natural colours and thereby create haptic experiences that are reminiscent of touch in nature…
It’s all about details in textile decoration – embroideries can be done with modern or historical embroidery machines but people love a certain handmade character…
Patterns can be straight and geometric as well as playful. If embroidered on spacer fabric, just a few stitches are enough to create 3d effects and relief…
Artisanal – the awareness for handmade items and for real couture is being increasingly implemented in the collections again…
Whether it’s in designs or in logos and typography: gradation effects are a must when we talk about contemporary embroidery. If you see such designs in a shop, you just have to touch and feel it. And there is another positive side effect when playing with the embroidery density: you need much less stitches. “Less is more” is always a good statement in embroidery…
The new collection will have a slightly rebellious vibe but will never lose sight of aesthetics…
We are more and more fascinated by the mysterious world of marine animals and by their hidden beauty and their glowing special effects. Vulnerability and strength come together and express what many of us moves…
We live the opposites, in the here and now – It couldn’t have been said better by Munich Fabric Start as motto for the autumn/winter 2026/2027 season.
